Welcome to Kindergarten!

On behalf of the kindergarten teachers and our entire staff, we welcome you to Newmarket Elementary School. We are excited to have you and your child join our learning community. Starting kindergarten is a very important and exciting time in your child’s life and in your lives as well. We want you to know we will do everything we can to make your child’s transition to kindergarten the best possible.

This book has been designed to help you understand all the things your child might learn to help make their first year at the "Big School" more comfortable.  You have a long time to look at this booklet and play with your child, so keep it handy and try the suggestions. You are receiving this booklet early because you and your child are GOING TO KINDERGARTEN!  Your kindergarten teacher is excited to meet you and welcome you into their classroom. We will see you in the fall.

What do kindergarteners need to bring to school?

• Backpack labeled inside with your name. Please make sure your backpack is big enough for a Home/School folder to fit in.  Please no wheel backpacks
• 1 complete set of clothes (labeled please) to leave at school just in case of an accident.  Think seasonal for the whole year.
• A snack or drink each day. We encourage healthy eating at school.  There is also an opportunity to get a snack or lunch each day.  Please check the school website for more information.
• A pack of four glue sticks
• 1 box of tissues
• 1 pair of labeled headphones to stay at school.  These will be used in the classroom and computer class
• A note stating how your child will be going home each day (bus rider, parent rider, Rec Center, after school care)
